Meet Kayla
Hello! My name is Kayla Canaan. I am a family film photographer based in Utah, and I have been photographing families for over 10 years. Over the years I have honed in on my style, my approach, and even my equipment! Because of this, I do things a little differently than some other photographers you might know — so let's dive in and give you all the details about what you need to know before booking with me!

There are two philosophies I take into every session. First, is the idea that everyone is somebody's grandma. The photos of my grandparents are so special to me — whether taken when they were young or old, holding a picture of them fills my heart. I incorporate this idea into every session by reminding myself of this: one day, someone is going to look back on these photos and think, "There's grandma."
The second philosophy is actually just a quote from Paul Child about his wonderful, giant-among-women wife, Julia. "Life without you is like unsalted food." That is endlessly inspiring to me.

What does a session with Kayla look like?
A session with me will be much more than a regular stand-here-and-smile-pretty session (but don't worry, we'll have some of that too!). We're going to be getting cuddly, and smushie, and lovey-dovey because I want to capture the way it feels to be a family (yeah, I know, sometimes it feels like sticky fingers and tired bones too. Been there!).
I also shoot exclusively on film — so we're gonna move slow, breathe, and capture literal moments in time (with light, that's how film works!) with your family.
